"Fundraiser Concert For Troup Band Program "

The East Texas Jazz Orchestra performed for the Troup Band Program on March 19, 2009 at Troup High School in Troup, Texas. The concert featured Dr. John Webb a well know jazz musician / vocalist. We performed big band music ranging from Glenn Miller to Count Basie. The concert was open to the public and well attended. The band would like to thank Mr. Gehrig Blankenship the director of the Troup band program for all his and his student's help in staging this performance.

Dr. john WebbDr. John Webb received the Doctor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Saxophone Performance/Pedagogy, and an MME and BM in Music Education and Jazz Education from the University of North Texas. Dr. Webb was Director of Jazz Studies and Commercial Music at Chadron State College, Nebraska from 1984-1991. From 1991-2000 he was at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater teaching studio saxophone, jazz combo, and cultural music of the Americas. In 1997, Dr. Webb was appointed Chair of the Music Department, where he served for three years until accepting the position of Director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Tyler. In 2005 Dr. Webb returned to teaching jazz combo, jazz improvisation, jazz piano, saxophone studio, cultural music, and a unique seminar entitled “Practicing Happiness”. Dr. Webb is an active performer on saxophone, flute, piano, and vocals. He is also putting the finishing touches on his book Practicing Happiness: Improve your Well-Being One Step at a Time, which will be published soon. He has also written Cultural Music Perspectives: Native American, African American, and Latin American, Music in the U.S. He currently lives in Tyler, Texas with his wife Toni, and family.
